Trail Grants

As of December 2017, the Michigan Horse Council has reinstated Trail Grants and they are available to any Michigan Horse Council member groups that are non-profit, non-motorized equestrian trail advocacy organizations that support, expand or improve a public trail or campground open to equestrian use. Additional grants are also allowed by special requests, such as pledges to match projects in partnership with the DNR if it is approved by the DNR.

The purposes of these grants are to assist in the cost of an expansion or improvement of any public trail or campground that is open to equestrian use.

The Deadline for this application is April 18, 2018The IRS allows NO Exceptions.

Here is how to apply. Click the link at the bottom of this page, and return this sheet, filled out with non-profit ID number (NO ID number, NO grant – this is an IRS ruling!) to the address on the sheet.

Include these items:

  1. Non-Profit or Michigan ID number for the group.

  2. Description of Organization (1 paragraph).

  3. Description of project (1 page maximum please).

  4. Timeline for completion of project (1 week, 1 month, 1 year).

  5. Project budget.

  6. Photos and maps are encouraged, but not necessary.

  7. If you were awarded grant funds in a previous year, the Michigan Horse Council must have a written report and photos about the use of those funds before considering your 2018 request.

  8. If ALL these criteria are not met, your group cannot be awarded a grant.  This is due to IRS records that must be kept. NO EXCEPTIONS can be made by MHC! Please sumbit your application accurately!
